Abigail is a beautiful little Shih Tzu girl who was abandoned in a trailer park. Animal control was finally called after 3 or 4 weeks to come and pick her up. She had spent at least those 3 or 4 weeks on her own and fending for herself, and we have no idea how long she had been on her own before then. The animal control officer called me to come and pick her up for rescue as she was showing tendencies as a fear biter. When I came to get her I picked her up and discovered that her right front leg is missing! It was not until I got her home to assess her that I found that not only was one of her front legs missing but she was crippled on the other front leg. It is an absolute miracle that she survived at all! It was determined that the missing front leg was from a traumatic amputation that was never addressed rather than a surgical amputation. I cannot imagine what kind of pain this little girl must have suffered.
She was taken to see Dr. Dew at Azzore Veterinary Specialists. He diagnosed her condition as hyper extension of her left carpus. While surgery may not help her walk much better, he does feel that if she does not have the surgery to stabilize the remaining front leg she will lose complete use of that leg over time as the ligaments will break down. As much as this precious little girl has been through we are determined to give her this to hopefully make her life a little better for a much longer time. Dr. Dew estimates the surgery could be as much as $2500 and being a small rescue we do not have the funds to do this without your help. Please, no amount is too small. Please help us help Abigail.
